Canada's Asia Pacific Gateway - 1st July 2008
Canada is an affluent, multi-cultural high-technology industrial society with a trillion dollar economy which resembles the US in its market-oriented economic system, pattern of production, and affluent living standards.
With abundant natural resources, a highly skilled work force, and capital resources, Canada is seen to have sound economic prospects. Prudent fiscal management has consistently produced balanced budgets since 1997.
Vancouver on the Pacific West Coast has a dynamic and diversified economy. It ranks third in a global survey ranking quality of living, after Zurich and Geneva.
In 1989 Vancouver approved a USD1.7 billion development by Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing. The waterfront project for the site of the 1986 World's Fair has transformed the skyline of the city.
For the vibrant economies of the Asia-Pacific Vancouver acts as a gateway to the worlds’ largest market, North America.
The Asia Pacific Gateway commits the Federal government to Canadian $1 Billion invested in various transportation infrastructure developments and upgrades. The Federal government has also committed Canadian $2.1Billion for infrastructure for gateways and border crossings. In January 2006, the province of British Columbia launched its own Canadian $3 billion Gateway Program for major infrastructure projects.
Winnipeg located in the geographical Centre of Canada facilitates efficient transportation and distribution to all North American time zones. It has one of the lowest overall business costs of major North American cities.

Diane Finley the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration visited India in December 2007 to promote Canada’s immigration program abroad and was quoted as saying, “Canada wants skilled and talented professionals from India and around the world and is committed to helping them integrate quickly into the Canadian labour market”.
Recognising that his country was on the path of "ageing", Gordon Campbell the Premier of British Columbia said there was an acute shortage of manpower in Canada. It is estimated that about one million new jobs mainly skilled labour were likely to be created in British Columbia in the near future with tremendous scope in the rental, retail, mining and energy sectors.
The opportunities for business investment in Canada remain great with its’ North America Free Trade ties to the United States of America and Mexico enhancing its’ links to the Asia Pacific Economies.
